Women’s View 2017 & Water Variation: Deep Blue

Sometimes there are moments when paintings simply pour out of me.  During such a time last summer, I did a series of three abstract paintings based on colors, reflection and the flow of moving water.  These paintings were inspired by the wanderings (and wonderings) along the Aare River in Berne, Switzerland, a trip I had taken earlier in the year.  I remember how I was mesmerized by the flow of the Aare’s waters, its history, the swelling banks along the shore, the trees dipping leaves into its current and the lush colors reflected in its depth.  I thought about the many things that make each of our lives so busy, so self important and how we rush from one moment to the next. And yet, when we dare to pause, it is the small wonderments, such as flowing water, a kiss, a smile, that can make us reflect, remember, that… it is the simple parts of our lives which actually are the most meaningful.

I am very proud to announce that Water Variation: Deep Blue, one of these three paintings, has been accepted as part of the Women’s View 2017 exhibit.  This exhibit is co-sponsored by the San Mateo County Arts Commission and the Commission on the Status of Women in recognition of the designation of March as Women’s History Month.

Exhibition Dates:  Friday, March 3 through Friday, April 28, 2017. The Caldwell and Community Galleries, located in 400 County Center, Redwood City, are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

  1. Lovely! And what you say about the simple pleasures of life, so true.
